WORKING WITH AN EAP
Professionals who operate EAPs require the support of experts in the field of addiction treatment and mental health care. A trusted relationship with a specialist center can streamline processes when these services are required. An EAP is an employee benefit to manage work-related stress. The services provided are free to employees and are tailored to individual needs. EAPs offer outside counselors, referrals, and resources to help employees and their family members with care provided on a confidential basis.
ABSOLUTE CONFIDENTIALITY
These restrictions are due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations, which require complete confidentiality between the third-party EAP provider and the employee. The HIPAA rule applies to any health institution that manages confidential information digitally and was implemented by the US Department of Health and Human Services to safeguard personal health information. It also sets limits and conditions regarding what is done with this information without the patient’s permission.
The regulation gives the patients rights over their own health information, including the right to who sees and shares records or is permitted to make changes to them. HIPAA-compliant substance abuse treatment facilities are required to comply with the privacy rule, and Psyclarity Health has the relevant accreditation and administrative systems in place to meet this need. This is an important step in ensuring complete confidentiality when choosing the right partnership with a facility.
PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR
SUBSTANCE ABUSE DISORDERS
Most Employee Assistance Program services are connected in some way to addiction treatment and mental healthcare. They either directly or indirectly address stress, depression, substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, financial concerns, family issues such as divorce or parental responsibility, and legal matters. EAPs offer a specified number of free sessions – generally one to three – to assess the employee’s issue before recommending a service, counselor, or resource.
While many EAPs are unlikely to provide long-term counseling, they are well-positioned to direct employees to the services that would be able to help them with their needs in the long run. In such cases, Psyclarity Health has specialized facilities for appropriate care and welcomes collaborations with referral specialists seeking qualified assistance. This is specifically targeted at male professionals who require private, patient-centric addiction treatment.

Employer Implementation
Employee Assistance Programs have evolved in the 50 years since they were first implemented. In that time, protocols have become far more progressive, and as many as 77% of employers in the US now offer an EAP. Although EAPs can be established in companies with as few as five employees, many companies with less than 25 staff members do not have one in place. In most instances, this is due to the fact that they are not aware of the perks of offering EAP services or do not know how to set one up. However, the trend is growing, both in the US and globally, as companies take note of the importance of caring for the mental wellness of their teams.
EAP REFERRAL TYPES
Sometimes, referrals may arise after issues come to light following performance evaluations, disciplinary hearings, or other legal procedures. In these instances, it is important to implement protocols as outlined by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
These include:

Pre-screen
Screening to confirm addiction and severity of the problem

Intervention
Brief intervention to counsel the patient about the issue

Referral
Referral to treatment to assist the patient in the recovery process
Once these steps have been completed, Psyclarity Health is available to seamlessly provide any necessary substance use and mental health treatment.
CARE OPTIONS
Psyclarity’s treatment plans and facilities have proven to be highly effective for treating substance addiction.
After assessment, medically assisted modalities may be implemented, followed by a patient-centric program of evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Patients are helped to identify causes for their addictions, as well as taught life skills to manage stress and cope with issues that often trigger a relapse.

CERTIFIED EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROFESSIONALS (CEAP’s)
Psyclarity Health New Jersey has developed strong working relationships with many CEAPs, offering advice and specialized care for employees whose needs run deeper than basic counseling or therapy. With this in mind, if you are a CEAP, you are welcome to make contact with the Psyclarity team to see how the Center’s services can be of benefit to you and your patients.
